Hello!
Hello, I’m glad you are here!
On this website, I share bold, practical and sometimes slightly unconventional ideas about fighting money laundering and terrorist financing. Because, let’s face it, wherever suspicious money appears, sooner or later someone will come up with a remarkably creative idea for hiding where it really came from.
That is why I try to look at financial crime from a broader perspective, rather than solely through procedures, checkboxes and yet another document that “absolutely had to be ready yesterday”. What interests me most is how financial crime works in the real world, and what we can do to detect and prevent it more effectively.
I've been working in AML, KYC and Due Diligence for more than 15 years. During that time, I've worked on identifying suspicious transactions, conducting KYC reviews, developing methodologies and processes, and managing financial crime risk more broadly. I also have a background in economics, which helps me look at these issues from a wider perspective. After all, the movement of capital lies at the heart of financial crime. All of this experience shapes how I approach the topics on this website: less theory for theory’s sake, and more ideas that can actually be put to use.
Alongside creating content for this website, I work at LSEG Risk Intelligence as a Data Governance Manager and Financial Crime Expert. LSEG, the London Stock Exchange Group, is a global financial markets infrastructure and data provider whose businesses include the London Stock Exchange. LSEG also provides solutions for AML, KYC, Due Diligence and financial crime risk management, including World-Check, a name that needs little introduction in the industry.
And when I'm not analysing data and risk, I explore the world, preferably according to a simple rule: the smaller the backpack, the longer the journey and the more surprises (read: adventures), the better. Travelling, discovering new countries and cultures, meeting people and understanding how different societies work are among my greatest passions.
Of course, professional curiosity is rather difficult to switch off completely. So I often explore the places I visit through the lens of financial crime as well. I am interested in how local culture, economics, politics, history and business practices influence the risks of corruption, fraud, money laundering and other forms of financial crime. Many of these observations found their way into my book, Due Diligence Horizon. Some are waiting for the next edition, and many more are still waiting to be discovered on future journeys.
Because to truly understand financial crime, it isn't enough to know where the money went. It also helps to understand why it went there, how that particular place works, which relationships matter, and why something that looks perfectly ordinary in one country might set off a rather large red flag in another.
In short: data, economics, the world and people. I like connecting these areas and looking for the relationships between them, because where money, data and human decisions meet, a financial crime story is often not far behind.
And if, along the way, I can demonstrate that due diligence doesn't have to be boring, all the better.

Experience
Meritum Bank (acquired by Alior Bank)
2012–2014
AML & KYC Assistant → AML & KYC Specialist
• KYC reviews and analysis of thousands of customers and transactions
• suspicious activity reporting to the Polish Financial Intelligence Unit (GIIF) and cooperation with regulators
• contribution to AML/KYC policies and training materials
The first, and so far only, time in my career when I regularly met with a bank’s Management Board. Not a bad way to start.
Citi
2014–2017
Senior Transaction Monitoring Specialist (AML) → Transaction Monitoring Expert (AML)
• analysis of transactions and financial products from the perspective of US AML regulations
• comprehensive reviews of high-risk customers, including PEPs and Private Banking clients
• work experience in the US and CAMS certification
This is where AML stopped being a purely Polish affair for me. I had the opportunity to learn from specialists from different countries and see what compliance looks like when done at a truly global scale.
LSEG Risk Intelligence
2017 – Present
Senior Quality Control Specialist (KYC) → Senior Knowledge & Training Specialist (KYC, Third-Party Risk Management) → Risk Management Expert & Advisor (KYC, TPRM) → Data Governance Manager & Financial Crime Expert (KYC, TPRM)
• data governance for Enhanced Due Diligence Reports and World-Check
• oversight of data quality and related processes across LSEG Risk Intelligence
• identification and assessment of new data sources, including third-party data providers for EDD and World-Check
• advisory support for LSEG clients in designing KYC, TPRM, onboarding and financial crime risk management processes
• quality control of EDD reports and development of standards to meet the requirements of global clients
• development of procedures, training materials and knowledge management programmes, as well as delivery of training and presentations
I started by checking whether the product met the right quality standards. Later, I taught others how to achieve them, advised clients on how to apply them in their own processes, and today I'm also responsible for the data underpinning the entire product. Quite a long journey to discover an old truth: even the best risk management model will not get you very far if it is built on low-quality data.
